BNDES approves financing of R$4.6 billion for the modernization of 11 airports, including Congonhas

Resources will be allocated to the concessionaire Aena for expansion and improvement works in terminals in São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso do Sul

The (National Bank for Economic and Social Development) approved, this Monday (1st), financing of R$4.64 billion for the Spanish group Aena. The amount will be allocated to the modernization, expansion and maintenance of 11 facilities managed by the concessionaire in Brazil. The total investment planned for the project is R$5.7 billion, including the issuance of debentures.

The credit operation was structured in the form Project Financea model in which payment of financing is guaranteed by the future cash flow generated by the project itself, starting only when the project begins to provide a financial return.

Most of the resources will be directed to , in São Paulo, which will receive around R$2 billion in investments. The project foresees robust interventions, including:

  • Expansion of the apron for aircraft;
  • Expansion of the passenger terminal to more than 100 thousand square meters;
  • Increase and qualification of the commercial area.

The objective is to offer greater comfort to passengers and increase the terminal’s profitability. In addition to Congonhas, the financial contribution includes improvements to ten other airports located in the states of Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso do Sul.
