Diap (Inter-Union Department of Parliamentary Advice) will hold seminars starting next year to train union leaders to deal with the “business desk” taking place in Congress, according to the new president of the Department, Rita Serrano.
“Today we have one of the most physiological, clientelistic Congresses in the history of democracy in Brazil. And it has made the agendas that involve society, workers and development one”, says Rita.
“So it is necessary to raise awareness in society and provide instruments for union leaders to carry out this debate”, she adds about the initiative called “Diap strategic dialogues: unionism, democracy, Parliament and movement”.
Diap is a non-profit entity maintained by trade unions and national worker federations for technical and political advice. , Rita was elected for a three-year term. She will take office on Wednesday (3).
Rita says she also wants to intensify the debate with trade unions about AEA to increase pressure on Congress.
“These workers are self-employed, precarious, have union representation that is still very incipient, and work long hours. So the objective is to act to regulate them to obtain rights, such as retirement and better working conditions”, he states.
