The (National Traffic Council) approved this Monday (1st) a rule that puts an end to the obligation to attend driving school to obtain a (National Traffic License). The new rule will come into effect after publication in the (Official Gazette of the Union), scheduled for the next few days.
The resolution is part of a set of measures formulated by the Ministry of Transport that seeks to expand access to the CNH. According to the (National Traffic Secretariat), around 20 million Brazilians drive without a driver’s license. With the end of the mandatory driving school, the Federal Government estimates that the cost of the process will fall by 80%.
WHAT CHANGES
The standard approved by Contran gives the candidate autonomy to decide the format of the theoretical classes. They can choose to complete the stage online or in person through a course offered by , in public traffic schools, in institutions accredited by the National Traffic System or in driving schools. It will also no longer be mandatory to comply with the minimum workload of 45 hours.
For practical classes, the position of “independent instructor” was created. This way, the student will not need to do this step at a driving school. He will also be able to use his own car in the race. A second attempt can be scheduled at no additional cost. And, it is not necessary to comply with the 20 class hours.
Furthermore, the due date for the process is now indeterminate. Previously, the candidate had up to 12 months to obtain their driver’s license.
Theoretical and practical tests continue to be mandatory. There also remains a need to collect biometrics, carry out a psychological assessment and carry out a physical fitness exam.
