Douglas Alves da Silva allegedly threw the car at Taynara Souza Santos out of jealousy, according to witnesses; victim had legs amputated after being taken 1 km on Marginal Tietê
The driver identified as Douglas Alves da Silva, aged 26, was arrested on Sunday night (30) after exchanging gunfire with police officers in São Paulo. He is identified as the perpetrator of the run over of Taynara Souza Santos, 31 years old, his former partner, who was dragged for more than 1 km on Saturday morning (29), in the North Zone of the capital. The suspect was shot in the arm and must be taken to the 13th Police District, in Casa Verde.
Taynara, mother of two children, was rescued in a very serious condition and underwent surgery. Due to the severity of the injuries, both legs were amputated. She remains hospitalized in the ICU of the Hospital Municipal Vereador José Storopolli.
According to the Civil Police, Taynara was in a bar in Parque Novo Mundo when she argued with Douglas, motivated by jealousy. Witnesses reported that the attacker saw the victim accompanied by another man. He then got into a black Volkswagen Golf, accelerated and ran over the victim, who fell and was trapped under the car.
Images handed over to the police show the moment she was dragged from Avenida Morvan Dias de Figueiredo to Marginal Tietê. A bar employee stated that Douglas even pulled the handbrake to increase the vehicle’s friction on the victim’s body. Witnesses tried to stop the escape, but the driver continued at high speed.
The Civil Police treat the case as an attempted femicide with extreme cruelty. Before being arrested, Douglas was on the run and it was suspected that he could flee to Ceará. His defense was not identified. The space of Young Pan is open.
The Public Security Secretariat reported that the investigations are ongoing and that the evidence collected so far indicates an intention to kill. The hospital did not release an update on Taynara’s health status due to medical confidentiality. Family and friends attend the hospitalization of the victim, who is the mother of a 12-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl.
