The former first lady (PL) disallowed negotiations to support a possible candidacy of (PSDB) in Ceará, embarrassed Bolsonarian leaders in the state and exposed a split in the former president’s base.
Michelle went to Fortaleza this Sunday (30) to participate in the launch of the pre-candidacy of senator Eduardo Girão (Novo). He threw himself into the dispute for the Government of Ceará in opposition to the governor (), who is expected to run for re-election next year.
In a speech, Michelle stated that the PL’s approach to Ciro Gomes was hasty and defended that the right should unite around Girão’s name. The former first lady also reprimanded Ceará’s Bolsonarist leaders, citing André Fernandes (PL) and state deputy Carmelo Neto (PL).
“I’m proud of you, but making an alliance with the man who is against the greatest leader of the right, that’s not enough. We’re going to stand up and work to elect Girão. You were so quick to make this alliance,” Michelle told the parliamentarians, who were present at the event.
She also stated that the presence of parliamentarians at the event meant support for Girão’s candidacy for government: “Everyone who is here is closed with Girão, because otherwise they wouldn’t be here.”
Annoyed, André Fernandes spoke to the press after the political event and criticized the former first lady’s stance. He stated that the agreement with Ciro had the approval of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who is serving a 27-year sentence for an attempted coup d’état.
He cited a meeting he had with Bolsonaro on May 29. At the time, the former president reportedly spoke on the phone with Ciro Gomes and signaled his support for a possible candidacy for government.
The agreement, according to Fernandes, was also supported by the national president of the PL, . The strategy, however, involved avoiding Bolsonaro’s public stance on the alliance with his former adversary.
This Monday (1st), the senator (PL-RJ), son of the former president, made her statements and stated that she acted in an authoritarian and embarrassing manner during the political event in Fortaleza.
“Michelle ran over President Bolsonaro himself, who had authorized the movement of deputy André Fernandes in Ceará. And the way in which she addressed him, who is perhaps our greatest local leader, was authoritarian and embarrassing,” the senator told the newspaper O Povo.
His brothers Eduardo and Carlos.
“I’m not going to go into the merits of whether it was a good or bad agreement, it was a position defined by my father. André could not be criticized for obeying the leader”, Eduardo stated on a social network.
wrote that the elder brother is right. “We have to be united and respect my father’s leadership, without letting other forces lead us!”
The articulations for a possible alliance between the PL and Ciro Gomes in Ceará began in May this year, when the former minister met with state deputies opposing governor Elmano de Freitas.
At the time, Ciro signaled for the first time that he would consider a possible candidacy for the government and a probable candidacy for that of state deputy and pastor Alcides Fernandes (PL), André Fernandes’ father.
Ciro left for the PSDB in October, signaling his willingness to enter the race for government. To this end, it has worked for unity among opposition parties, including .
The movement had been maturing since last year, when its main allies supported (PL) in the second round of the dispute for mayor of Fortaleza.
