The minister, of the Federal Supreme Court (), determined this Monday (1) that the general have an expert report carried out by doctors from the . The request comes after Heleno’s defense presented contradictory information about the health of the man sentenced to 21 years and 11 months for an attempted coup. Initially, the defense argued that Heleno had suffered from Alzheimer’s since 2018, implying that the general had commanded the GSI (Institutional Security Office) of the Presidency of the Republic with the disease.

The statement was made during the criminal examination when he was arrested on November 22nd. However, the defense later stated that the general was only diagnosed with mixed dementia (Alzheimer’s and vascular) in January 2025. On November 29, after the PGR took a position in favor of the convict’s house arrest, Moraes requested that tests be sent to prove the disease.

Then, the defense changed the version and stated “that such information only appears in the corpus delicti report and is possibly due to a mistake on the part of the expert. The defense also argues that as the diagnosis was not made before January 2025, “there was nothing to communicate to the Presidency or any public body. It also justifies the absence of an allegation of incapacity during the interrogation, maintaining that the illness was not relevant to the alleged facts and that he sought to preserve family intimacy”, says Moraes’ decision.
