OE2026: will it be the biggest investment in defense in democracy?

Another 500 thousand immigrants in the SNS in 18 months?

With a war in Europe and international tensions, it is important to understand whether the State Budget for 2026 has the largest investment in defense in the history of democracy, as the parliamentary leader of the CDS said. The SIC Polygraph confirmed it.

On proposal Budget for next year, is planned a reinforcement of 772 million euros for Defense.

Accordingly with the data from the International Institute Stockholm Peace Research Institute, military expenses were always superior a 2% do PIB between 1974 and 1978, later settling at 2%, precisely, between 1979 and 1982.

In NATO data, the percentages are still higher: from 5.3% in 1975, to 4% in 1976, and remained above 3% in the following years.

To the SIC Polygraph, the CDS defends itself by saying that “the percentage of GDP It’s not the investment, as it includes other expenses such as personnel expenses. To measure investment, one should look at the expense in equipment”.

Therefore, the parliamentary leader of the CDS did not refer expenditure on equipment, but rather to investment in general, i.e, that encompasses personnel expenses, equipment, infrastructure and operational.
