The decided to activate the following of the president (PT) on national radio and television this Sunday (30). In the party’s assessment, the PT member used the space to make a publicity piece with the objective in mind, and not to transmit information of public interest.
“At no point did he speak as head of state or government. He spoke as a candidate for re-election. It was not an institutional speech, but a pre-campaign publicity piece”, states the former federal deputy.
The PSDB will ask for reimbursement of government spending on transmission.
“It was a free electoral program. This creates a problem for democracy: the advantage of those in power. He didn’t just announce the Income Tax, but he spoke about the privileges of the elite. Defending democracy is easy. Actually exercising democracy is a very difficult task for the PT when it is governing”, adds Aécio.
In his speech, Lula stated that the grant for those earning up to R$5,000 should inject R$28 billion into the economy and that the measure overturns the “shameful” privilege of the elite paying proportionally less taxes.
A campaign promise from the PT member, the exemption was granted on the 26th and is one of the government’s main bets for 2026. The change also includes a tax discount for those who earn between R$5,000 and R$7,350 per month.
