The American administration has high hopes for an early end to the war in Ukraine

The White House expressed positive expectations regarding the peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. He is preparing a 28-point plan to end the fighting.

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said on Monday that the administration of US President Donald Trump is “very optimistic” about reaching an agreement to end the war in Ukraine. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.

“I think the administration is very optimistic,” Leavitt said as President Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff heads to Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. She added that the White House chief and his team “have been working hard on this effort and everyone really wants this war to end.”

There is still work to be done in the negotiations

“Just yesterday they had very good talks with the Ukrainians in Florida, and now, of course, Special Envoy Witkoff is on his way to Russia,” Leavitt added, referring to weekend talks between Ukrainian and American delegations on a proposed plan to end the fighting in Ukraine.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the negotiations in Florida as very productive, but emphasized that there is still a lot of work to be done before a peace agreement with Russia is reached. The Kyiv delegation was led by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, and called them productive and successful.

After consultations with Russian officials, the United States prepared a 28-point plan to end the fighting, which, according to media reports, included significant concessions from Kyiv. The previous Sunday, representatives of the USA, Ukraine and European states negotiated in Geneva on the amendments to the proposal, which many countries and experts perceived as pro-Russian. According to Trump, the document underwent unspecified changes after these negotiations.
