The situation in the regions
In addition, the Ukrainian media reported on Sunday’s intensive shelling of the Zaporozhye region in the southeast of Ukraine, which did not result in any injuries. Intense fighting continues to be reported in the vicinity of the city of Huľajpole, where, according to the Ukrainian General Staff, the situation is “really difficult”.
Attention also continues to focus on the eastern Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk, where Russian troops have been trying to advance for months in an effort to take control of this important road and rail hub in the Donetsk region.
Kherson under fire
Intensive shelling during Sunday was also reported in the Kherson region, which faced fire from artillery, mortars, multiple rocket launcher systems and various types of drones. By early Sunday evening, they registered seven injured civilians. Private and apartment buildings, public buildings, garages and vehicles were damaged.
Sky News TV reminded that despite ongoing peace negotiations, Russian troops continue to attack Ukrainian cities and record operations on the front line.
Energy infrastructure under attack
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia launched “almost 1,400 attack drones, 1,100 guided aerial bombs and 66 missiles” over the past week. At the same time, it also hit energy infrastructure objects, which, according to Kyiv, has become a common tactic of Moscow during the winter, when Russia tries to “use the cold as a weapon.”
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported on Monday that air defenses destroyed a total of 32 drones over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Novgorod and Rostov regions, as well as over the Krasnodar region, the Leningrad region, the Sea of Azov and the Voronezh region during the night of Monday. Volgograd, Kursk, Smolensk and Tula regions also registered one drone each.

The governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, announced on Sunday evening that several drones were also shot down over the Kirish district. The target of the attack was not specified by the governor, but the Kirišinefteorgsintez oil refinery is located in the given district.
