The ultra Nasry Asfura, supported by Trump, leads the preliminary results in Honduras

The presidential candidate Nasry Asfura, of the conservative National Party – whom the president of the United States, asked to publicly support -, leads the first counts of the general elections held this Sunday in Honduras, followed by Salvador Nasralla, of the Liberal Party, according to the preliminary results released by the National Electoral Council (CNE).

More than four hours after the closing of the voting centers and 34.25% of the minutes had been counted, Asfura obtained 530,073 votes, while Nasralla obtained 506,316, indicated the CNE councilors on national television. In third place is Rixi Moncada, from the ruling Freedom and Refoundation Party (Free, left), with 255,972 votes, indicated the CNE president advisor, Ana Paola Hall.

Hall highlighted “the civility” demonstrated in the elections and ordered the Vote Receiving Boards to remain in their centers until completing, in a “transparent manner, the counting and transmission of all the minutes” corresponding to the different elective levels.

Asfura, the son of parents of Palestinian origin, received public support this week from Trump, who, in addition to requesting a vote for the conservative candidate, assured that “there will be a lot of support” for Honduras if he wins.

Trump described Asfura as “the only true friend of freedom in Honduras” and stated that he sees the possibility of “working together to fight the narco-communists” and .

If his victory is confirmed, Asfura would assume the Executive backed by the National Party, a formation that accumulated wear and tear in the three periods it governed between 2010 and 2022 after being marred by allegations of corruption and alleged links to drug trafficking networks, according to investigations and journalistic reports.

More than 6.5 million were there to elect today the person who will succeed Xiomara Castro, who will conclude her term on January 27, 2026.

They also voted for three presidential appointees (vice presidents), 128 deputies to the local Parliament, 20 to the Central American Parliament and 298 municipal corporations.

The scrutiny will continue in the next few hours and the CNE warned that the final results will depend on the complete transmission of the minutes, which Hondurans will be able to follow in the electronic system of the electoral body.
