Apple () announced this Monday (1st) that John Giannandrea, its head of (IA), will leave his position. Giannandrea, who held the position of senior vice president and reported directly to the CEO, will remain an advisor to the company until next year.
The departure marks the biggest change to Apple’s AI team since the launch of Apple Intelligence in 2024. Apple Intelligence was created to position Apple among the leaders in artificial intelligence, alongside companies like OpenAI and Google.
However, the product was not well received among users and critics, especially after the postponement of the launch of an improved version of the Siri virtual assistant, one of the project’s pillars, to 2026.
Amar Subramanya, an AI researcher who worked at Microsoft (), has been announced as Apple’s new vice president of AI.
He will lead the teams responsible for fundamental models, research and AI security, reporting to Apple’s head of software, Craig Federighi.
In a statement, Tim Cook highlighted the importance of Federighi’s work, highlighting that he has been fundamental to the development of artificial intelligence at Apple, including the personalization of Siri scheduled for next year.
