SBT is working to count on commentator and former player Caio Ribeiro, currently at Globo, as a new reinforcement for the broadcast of the 2026 World Cup.
According to journalist Gabriel Vaquer, executives from the broadcaster have already approached him and presented a formal offer. The approach process has the help of Tiago Leifert, SBT narrator and personal friend of the commentator.
Despite the interest, Caio is enjoying a solid moment within Globo, where he participates in the main sports broadcasts. He also frequently appears in Brazilian team games.
Furthermore, he has the freedom to manage side projects, such as corporate events and private initiatives linked to sport.

Is Caio Ribeiro going to SBT?
To convince Caio, SBT is betting on the reissue of the partnership with Tiago Leifert, which took place at the time at the Copa Central in 2010 and 2014. Journalist Gabriel Vaquer announced that the broadcaster signals that he would have a prominent position in covering the World Cup, with protagonism in front of the public and editorial freedom within the project.
Caio Ribeiro has been at Globo since 2007, when he began his career as a commentator on Rádio Globo and sportv. At first, he participated in sports programs and broadcasts of Series B of the Brazilian Championship.
Over time, he was promoted to also act in Globo games on open TV in São Paulo. Since then, it has been present in the 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
SBT at the 2026 World Cup
The interest in reinforcing Caio comes shortly after SBT and NSports, a channel of which Galvão Bueno is a partner, confirmed the purchase of the rights to the 2026 World Cup.
The broadcasters divided the amount paid to FIFA: US$25 million (around R$134.5 million at current prices), for the broadcast of 32 matches of the tournament.
According to Gabriel Vaquer’s investigation, the first installment was paid at the beginning of October, and there are still at least three payments remaining until the World Cup takes place, between June and July of next year.
Initially, FIFA asked for a higher amount, but the amount was reduced after negotiations. As a consequence, the package was smaller than expected: instead of the 54 games imagined, only 32 will be shown.
