Force criticizes arrest of union leader in Venezuela – 12/01/2025 – Panel

A released a note expressing “deep indignation and perplexity” at information that the general secretary of the CTV (Confederation of Venezuelan Workers), José Elias Torres, had been arrested on Saturday by the regime.

The note is signed by Nilton Neco, International Secretary of Força Sindical, and João Carlos Gonçalves, Juruna, general secretary of the central.

In the demonstration, both call the arrest arbitrary and unfair. According to the information cited, Torres was arrested on Saturday (29) at his home in Caracas by agents from the Intelligence Directorate of the Bolivarian National Police of the Venezuelan Government regime.

“With the arrest of its fellow fighter, the current Venezuelan regime demonstrates that the country urgently needs to strengthen democracy and dialogue with all the forces that make up South American society, aiming for a pluralistic society”, indicates Força Sindical.

The center also states that the importance of the union “lies in defending workers’ rights, acting as a mediator for collective negotiations, guaranteeing decent working conditions, fair wages and safety.” “For this reason, entity directors are important leaders who help in the construction and equity of a more just and humane society”, he adds.
