Former EU foreign policy chief Mogherini arrested: suspected of corruption

The European Union’s External Action Service (EEAS) is rocked by an alleged corruption scandal. On Tuesday, among others, the former EU foreign policy chief, the Italian Federica Mogherini, was arrested and questioned by the Belgian police. This was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the EU Commission. The order came from the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) in Luxembourg, which is investigating both the EEAS and the leadership of the “College of Europe” in Bruges, a private elite university, for misuse of EU funds.
