Men in Denmark financed terrorism: they were supposed to send hundreds of thousands of euros to Hamas, they were detained by the police

On Tuesday, the Danish authorities announced the arrest of persons suspected of financing terrorism. The pair of men were supposed to secure funds in the amount of hundreds of thousands of euros for the Palestinian movement Hamas.

Copenhagen police announced on Tuesday that they had arrested two people on suspicion of collecting several million Danish kroner for the Palestinian militant movement Hamas. TASR took over the report from the DPA agency.

  • Copenhagen police detained two persons suspected of supporting Hamas.
  • They were supposed to collect almost 5.7 million Danish kroner for the militant movement.
  • The European Union has placed Hamas on the list of terrorist organizations.

On Tuesday morning, the authorities detained a 28-year-old man, the other 59-year-old man has been in custody for a longer time, the police confirmed on Platform X. Both suspects reportedly denied the charges.

They collected almost 5.7 million Danish crowns for Hamas

The Danish news agency Ritzau and the station TV 2 reported that the men collected almost 5.7 million Danish crowns (approximately 763 thousand euros) for Hamas.

The money was probably transferred to Hamas either through a network of Danish organizations or from abroad.

The DPA agency reminds that the European Union included Hamas on the list of terrorist organizations for violent attacks against civilians and state targets. Its financing, support or cooperation is therefore prohibited within the EU member states.
