Former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro reiterates her position against any political articulation involving the PL’s support for Ciro Gomes in the state of Ceará

The former first lady published an official note this Tuesday (2/12) to reiterate her position against any political articulation that involves the support of the Liberal Party (PL) in the state of . The demonstration comes after criticism received from allies and her stepchildren — children of the former president — due to statements she made at an event in Fortaleza, last Sunday (30).

In the statement, Michelle emphasizes that the refusal to support the former minister is based on personal principles and the defense of her family’s honor. According to the president of PL Mulher, it is unfeasible to walk alongside someone who labeled Jair Bolsonaro a “genocidal” and who, according to her, actively contributed to the former president’s ineligibility.

“I could never agree to give my support to the candidacy of a man who caused so much harm to my husband and my family,” he declared. Michelle argues that defeating the Workers’ Party (PT) by supporting Ciro would be equivalent to “exchanging Joseph Stalin for Vladimir Lenin”, classifying the former minister as a “political fox” who will never defend right-wing values.

Internal disagreements and family role

The note also addresses the discomfort generated within Bolsonarism and the disagreements with Bolsonaro’s children. Although she claims to respect her stepchildren’s position, Michelle claimed her right to freedom of expression, even if her opinion differs from party strategies or even her husband’s wishes, although she highlighted that Jair did not communicate support for Ciro.

Michelle highlighted that, before being a political leader, she prioritizes her roles as a woman, mother and wife. “If I have to choose between being a politician, a mother or a wife, I will choose the last two options,” she said. She illustrated her position by questioning how she would justify such an alliance to the couple’s daughter, given Ciro’s history of insults against the girl’s father.

At the end of the text, the former first lady asked her stepchildren for understanding, claiming that her intention was not to contradict them, but rather to defend the family from a “persecutor”. “It is often wives who are called upon to show their husbands that they may be making mistakes,” he concluded.
