The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes ordered this Monday (1st) that a medical examination be carried out on General Augusto Heleno. The objective is to prove the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s presented by the former minister’s defense as an argument to request house arrest.
The expert report must be carried out by doctors from the Federal Police within 15 days, in accordance with Moraes’ decision, obtained by TV Globo. In the text, the minister cites “contradictory information” about the disease presented by General Heleno himself and his defense.
Former minister of the government’s Institutional Security Office Jair Bolsonaro stated, during a forensic examination last week, that he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2018. The disease was used as justification for the general’s request for house arrest, sentenced to 21 years in prison for an attempted coup d’état.

On Saturday (29), however, the defense stated in a statement sent to the Supreme Court that the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s was made in January 2025, based on exams carried out in 2024. This defense position was a response to a previous decision by Moraes, which determined the presentation of exams that proved the former minister’s condition.
General Augusto Heleno has been detained in a room at the Planalto Military Command since last Tuesday (25), after his conviction became final.
