In a statement, the SSI said that between the 26th and 29th of November, the “Portugal Semper Seguro” operation, which brings together several police and State entities, inspected 4,978 people, more than 1,550 vehicles, nine vessels and 195 establishments.

Within the scope of the operations carried out 25 people were arrestedmore than half for road crimes (mostly for driving with excess alcohol) and 24 crimes recordedmore than half for road traffic offences.

The authorities involved in the operations recorded also 528 administrative offensesof which 64% are road related, including 20% ​​related to alcohol.

42 operations were carried out on the continent and autonomous regions, with the participation of the GNR, PSP, Judiciary Police, Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE), Tax and Customs Authority (AT) and Working Conditions Authority (ACT), involving 875 elements, supported by 226 vehicles and 11 kinesthetic pairs (teams formed by a police element and a dog).

The “Portugal Semper Seguro” operation, which took place this year for the second time, began at the end of October with the aim of strengthening public securityprevent illicit activities and dissuade risky behavior, with special attention to road inspection and establishments, particularly nightlife and restaurants.

Last year, the “Portugal Semper Seguro” operation, whose final results were not disclosed, was criticized by left-wing partiesfor having a targeted approach to detecting irregular immigrants.
