It is always interesting to read and analyze official reports from international organizations, independent of the internal political environment of each country, as is the case with the UN UNDP Human Development Report.

I would like to draw the attention of less informed readers to the fact that the data contained in these reports are obtained over two or three years, meaning that the data does not relate exactly to the year of publication of each report.

In table A, according to the 2025 HDR, there is a comparison of the HDI of Portugal (40th) with Iceland (1st), with Eritrea (178th) and with the groupings of countries according to the average human development index for each group of countries.

In that report, Portugal is in the group of countries with very high human development. We must meditate on this fact, because if Portugal is included in the group of most developed countries, what will low-income countries be like? Hunger is rampant in the world. These are average values, there are many millions of people who have no income at all each year!

Table B shows the evolution of Portugal’s HDI over the last 25 years. This index is composed of several variables, so it can relate each country to all the others. As you can see, over these years with socialist governance, our country has become much worse compared to other countries, especially in 2007, 2008 and 2009 with the government of socretin cunning.

The political-ideological verbiage of the incompetent, the corrupt, the crony and the opportunists had this cost for the Portuguese.

We have been moving backwards, so it will take us several decades to recover the relative position we occupied at the beginning of this century.

I don’t know of any country with socialist or communist governance that is very well placed in this index, not even Russia which is in 64th.
