The Civil Police of Pará arrested, this Tuesday (2), two suspects and carried out four search and seizure warrants during Operation “Dólus” in Belém (PA).
According to information from the Police, the group is suspected of deceiving consumers with false financing and consortium offers, causing losses to at least 17 people.
According to the Consumer Police (Decon), linked to the Special Investigations Division (Dioe), those investigated presented themselves as financial consultants. In practice, however, the company functioned as a front to carry out scams.
The victims believed they were entering into a financing or consortium. It was like paying the deposit for a car believing that it will drive away, but the vehicle never existed. Delegate Yuri Vilanova explains that the contract hid the true objective.
“In reality, it was a service provision contract. The victims only discovered later that the amounts paid had nothing to do with financing, but were presented as compensation for a false consultancy service”, he stated.
Of the four search and seizure warrants, three were carried out at the suspects’ homes and one at the headquarters of the company involved. During the action, three credit card machines, a cell phone and bank cards used in the scheme were seized.
The investigation identified more than 17 injured people. Those arrested must respond for embezzlement, criminal association and threat. They remain at the disposal of Justice.
A third person under investigation remains at large and is believed to be in the State of Santa Catarina. Investigations continue to locate new people involved and possible other victims of the criminal scheme.
