Pensioners can now do the math: see case by case how much pensions will increase in 2026

Pensioners can receive an 'extra' amount per year and forever: this is the requirement to have access

The annual update of pensions is beginning to take shape and, for many pensioners, 2026 should bring an increase of around 2.8 percent. The estimates result from the most recent data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE), which make it possible to complete the formula used by the State to define the value of reforms at the beginning of each year.

According to INE, the average inflation of the last twelve months, without housing, for November, was 2.27 percent. This was the missing indicator to complete the calculation, which also includes the average growth in Gross Domestic Product over the last two years.

Based on the combination of these values, pensions up to two IAS, a level that covers the vast majority of Portuguese pensioners, are expected to rise by 2.8 percent next year, according to explanations from DECO PROteste.

Most pensions will see increases of between 2 and 2.8 percent in 2026

According to the same source, the update calculation suggests that the Social Support Index should increase from the current 522.50 euros to around 537.13 euros in 2026. This evolution serves as a reference for updating various benefits and also defines the pension increase levels.

According to the publication, the expected increases are as follows. For pensions equal to or less than 1,074.26 euros, the increase will be 2.8 percent. Between 1,074.26 and 3,222.78 euros, growth points to 2.3 percent. For pensions above this value and up to 6,445.56 euros, the update should be set at 2 percent.

DECO PROteste remembers, however, that the numbers may still undergo small adjustments. Although the inflation estimate for November is already known, the final accounts will only be closed in mid-December, when the Government officially publishes the values.

In addition to the automatic update, there is also the possibility of an extraordinary supplement being granted to pensioners, as happened in 2024 and 2025.

According to the publication, the measure is foreseen in the State Budget for 2026, but depends on the evolution of budget execution throughout the year.

If there is financial margin, a bonus similar to those in previous years may be approved, with a single payment.

How to confirm the increase on the receipt

Remember that the simplest way to check the exact value of the pension is through the pension receipt.

The document details the updated amount, adjustments and deductions applied. To consult it, simply access Social Security Direct and follow the route Pensions > Pension Income > Pension Receipts.

With the indicators already practically defined and the year about to end, pensioners are beginning to have a more concrete idea about how much they will receive in 2026. All that remains is official confirmation, which will arrive within a few weeks.
