The Pentagon Press Secretary, Kingsley Wilson, said this Tuesday, 2, that the War Department has a contingency plan in case the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, leaves power and the country, emphasizing that US forces would only act if instructed by the president of the United States, Donald Trump.
At a press conference, Wilson pointed out that the Pentagon continues to focus on dismantling “narcotics networks”, in reference to attacks on vessels in the Caribbean and South America.
Asked whether members of the Venezuelan armed forces or government would be excluded from a future transition, Wilson stated that the determination “would be up to the president”.

The statements come after a telephone call between Maduro and Trump in which the Republican gave the Venezuelan leader an ultimatum to resign.
