On Tuesday, the federal government’s rent package, consisting of the new Rent Value Assurance Act (MieWeG) and the rent brake for benchmark and category rents (5th Tenancy Inflation Alleviation Act), will be discussed in the parliamentary buildings committee. It is only the second meeting of this committee in this legislative period, and the first real working session after its constitution on February 26th. Some of the opposition’s applications, some of which are older, will also be dealt with according to the agenda, including the Green demand for an “immediate extension of the rent control to free rents” and the FPÖ application for “rent reductions in Viennese housing to cooperative level”. These requests naturally have little chance of being implemented.
