The president of the Chamber, (-PB), and the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro (), were honored by the government (Republicans) this Monday (1st) in a ceremony that celebrates the 134th anniversary of the 1st Tobias de Aguiar Shock Police Battalion, in .
The event took place at Rota’s headquarters, in the city center.
Motta and Castro were awarded the First Shock Battalion Centenary Medal, created in 1991 for, according to the legal text, “personalities, civil and military, and institutions, public and private, who have contributed to the greater brilliance of the Battalion or, in some way, provided relevant services to the State of São Paulo and its people”.
The tribute comes at a time when Motta is trembling with the Lula (PT) government, after the president of the Chamber appointed (PP) to rapporteur the Anti-Faction Law project, approved this month.
Derrite left the Public Security Secretariat of the São Paulo government to resume his mandate as federal deputy and lead the approval of the proposal. This Monday, the secretary stated that parliamentarians opposed to the proposal “voted in favor of the bandits”.
The appointment of Derrite as rapporteur of the text created friction between the president of the Chamber and the leader of the PT in the House, Lindbergh Farias, with whom Motta announced that he had broken relations. The PT member, in turn, stated that the president of the House’s reaction was immature.
The tension in the relationship with the government became more evident last week, when Motta and the president of , (União Brasil-AP), decided not to attend the ceremony to sanction the bill that raises .
Derrite returned to command of the secretariat in mid-November, after reporting on PL Antifaction, but this Monday to focus on the campaign for the Senate in 2026.
Also honored, Castro is another candidate to run for the Senate in 2026. In addition to his virtual candidacy, he is part of the front of right-wing governors who are rehearsing a union movement for a presidential contest in 2026 and was at the center of political clashes after the mega-operation that left 121 people dead in Rio de Janeiro.
Preferred by the centrão parties to compete for the Palácio do Planalto, Tarcísio says he is a candidate for re-election in São Paulo, but has been treated as a presidential candidate at events and has made statements of a national nature, such as “we are going to rid Brazil of the PT”.
This Monday, he said it was time for Brazil to “say ‘enough’ to organized crime, enough is enough that we are giving here in the state of”.
Castro, in turn, stated: “value your governor because the state of São Paulo has a good man, an honorable man and one of the most prepared minds to govern in Brazil.”
Motta thanked Tarcísio in his speech. “Here is my thanks to you, my thanks to Governor Tarcísio and everyone who makes up the Military Police of the State of São Paulo for having built together this matter which, without a doubt, will leave a great legacy for public security”, he stated.
The president of the Chamber also said that the tribute represents the strengthening of “institutional ties” between the House “and one of the most respected police corporations in Brazil”. He stated that he prioritized the public safety agenda this year. “So far, almost 50 projects have been approved in the area,” he declared.
Later, in a conversation with journalists, Derrite said that the awarding of the medals has no political connotation.
“[A entrega] It was not thinking about an election year, but about recognizing those who face organized crime. And in the figure of the President of the Chamber, it is not just Congressman Hugo Motta. He is representing the 513 parliamentarians here,” he said.
Another 61 people received the honor from the São Paulo government at the event, such as the president of Alesp, deputy André do Prado (PL), and the minister of the TCU (Federal Audit Court) Jorge Oliveira.
Also among those honored, the minister of the (Supreme Federal Court) did not attend.
