Unanimously, the National Traffic Council (Contran) approved the end of the obligation to attend driving school to obtain the National Driving License (CNH). The measure, however, only comes into force from the moment it is published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU).
Reducing bureaucracy in accessing the document also aims to reduce costs, which can reach up to R$5,000.
According to data from the National Traffic Secretariat (Senatran), 20 million Brazilians and another 30 million are old enough to have a driver’s license, but do not have the document due to lack of financial resources.
According to the Minister of Transport, Renan Filhoobtaining a driver’s license will continue to be conditional on passing the theoretical and practical tests. “Classes alone do not guarantee that someone is able to drive. What guarantees is the test”, he says.
