A fire in an apartment in Košice claimed the life of a pensioner († 80): The investigator found the probable cause of the tragedy

Shortly after midnight, the police received a report on line 158 about a fire in one of the apartments in the West district of Košice. All emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene, while the police officers who arrived first began to evacuate the residents of the apartment building. The fire broke out in an apartment on the tenth floor, where firefighters found an 80-year-old woman without signs of life after entering. A HaZZ evacuation bus was sent to the site for approximately 40 evacuated residents, while some people went to relatives. According to preliminary information, approximately 90 people left the apartment building.

The investigator of the causes of the fires of HaZZ identified the probable cause as unprofessional handling of an open fire, probably smoking. The investigator of the criminal police OR PZ in Košice started criminal prosecution for the crime of general threat and all the circumstances of the incident are subject to further investigation.
