Russia has declared its willingness to continue negotiations with the US on ending the war in Ukraine. Peskov emphasized the importance of discretion in diplomatic negotiations.
Russia is ready to meet with the US as many times as necessary to end the war in Ukraine. According to the AFP agency, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this on Wednesday.
AFP recalled that Peskov’s statement came after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s talks with US officials in Moscow on Tuesday ended without progress in efforts to bring peace to Ukraine.
At the same time, the Kremlin spokesman rejected the claim that Putin on Tuesday rejected the American plan to settle the conflict in Ukraine. He pointed out that “this kind of direct exchange took place yesterday (Tuesday) for the first time….some things were accepted, some were marked as unacceptable. This is the normal working process of finding a compromise.”
They expressed their gratitude to Trump
“We are grateful for the efforts of (US President Donald) Trump’s administration and we are still ready to meet as many times as necessary to reach a peaceful settlement,” Peskov said.
Peskov added that the Kremlin will adhere to the “principle of silence” in negotiations with the US and refrain from detailed comments. “We will deliberately not supply anything,” Peskov said, adding that Moscow is of the opinion that the more discreet the talks on Ukraine will be, the more productive they will be. Putin’s talks with Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Moscow took place on Tuesday and lasted about five hours. Putin’s adviser Yuriy Ushakov declared that after the five-hour meeting, the two sides “are neither further nor closer to resolving the crisis in Ukraine. Much work needs to be done.”
