The federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) said, this Tuesday (4), to welcome “optimism” the news of the conversation between the presidents Donald Trumpof the USAe Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), do Brazil.
“We received the news of the conversation between President Donald Trump and Lula with optimism. A frank dialogue between the two countries can open important paths, as long as it is guided by clear principles”, said Eduardo on X (formerly Twitter).
. According to a statement from Palácio do Planalto, Lula praised the United States’ decision to remove the additional 40% tariff imposed on Brazilian products, such as meat and coffee.
However, the head of the Brazilian Executive highlighted that there are still tariffed products that need to be discussed and that Brazil wants to “move quickly” in these negotiations.
Trump, in turn, . “We had a great conversation, we talked about trade, we talked about sanctions because, as you know, I imposed sanctions, which have to do with certain things that happened,” said the American.
In addition to tariffs against Brazilian products, the American government applied the Magnitsky Law against Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), and revoked visas from other Brazilian authorities, in part due to the trial against the former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
Eduardo Bolsonaro, who was one of the negotiators of these tariffs, and who has lived in the US since the beginning of the year, said again this Tuesday that “sanctions are never an end in themselves; they are legitimate instruments to correct serious violations when other avenues have been blocked”.
“We trust in President Trump’s leadership to negotiate with Brazil an understanding that protects the strategic interests of the United States in the hemisphere and, at the same time, recognizes the urgency of restoring civil liberties and the rule of law for the Brazilian people”, continued Eduardo.
In the parliamentarian’s opinion, any progress in bilateral relations requires facing “Brazil’s current institutional crisis and reaffirming freedom as an essential foundation among democratic nations.”
