About 20,000 rounds of ammunition from the armed forces, the Bundeswehr, last week during their transport by a civilian courier, according to information from the magazine Der Spiegel and public television MDR.

As noted in the reports, the cargo was stolen from an unguarded parking lot near Magdeburg while the driver of the transport company’s vehicle was sleeping in a nearby hotel. The theft was discovered the next day when the truck arrived at its destination, a camp in Saxony-Anhalt. The regulations for the carriage of such cargo, which in this case were not followed, state that two drivers ride in the vehicle and at least one is always in the vehicle. In this specific transport, the driver even made an unscheduled stop.

Information about the identity of the perpetrators and the type or exact amount of ammunition stolen has not been released. The police rule out the possibility that it was a random incident and believe that the truck was being watched by the perpetrators, who took advantage of the unscheduled stop.
