General Motors announced this Wednesday the production of another electric car in Ceará: the Captiva EV electric sports utility vehicle, scheduled to start in January.
The announcement was made during an event that also marked the beginning of the assembly of GM’s first electric vehicle in Brazil, the Spark, in the city of Horizonte (CE), with the presence of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
GM vehicles will be assembled at the Ceará Automotive Plant (Pace), a multi-brand factory operated by the company Comexport, which previously produced vehicles under the former Troller brand.
According to GM, the assembly of electric vehicles at the Pace facility “offers an efficient solution for initial volumes.”
“This model preserves economic rationality, ensures operational efficiency and guarantees the necessary flexibility to expand production as the market evolves,” stated the North American automaker, which has its own factories in São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul.
At the same ceremony, the vice-president of Pace and partner at Comexport, Rodrigo Teixeira, announced an investment of R$500 million in research and development at the Ceará factory.

“We already have one of the most important automotive markets in the world and an industry that needs to become increasingly relevant and innovative,” declared Teixeira.
GM’s announcement about production in Ceará was made in September. The first phase of the project involves the assembly of kits of imported parts in SKD (Semi Knocked-Down) mode. According to the Ceará government, there is an expectation that the Spark will be “manufactured entirely in the country”. GM projects production of 8,800 Spark units in 2026.
The Captiva EV is GM’s fifth launch in Brazil this year. The vehicle has a range of 304 kilometers on a battery charge, according to the automaker. The model, which currently costs around R$200,000, will be targeted at “strategic markets” in Latin America, Mexico and the Middle East, consolidating itself as one of the pillars of the brand’s electrical expansion.
