Government rejects Chamber proposal to reduce 6×1 – 12/02/2025 – Brasília Hoje

Government ministers () and base parliamentarians demonstrated jointly this Tuesday (2) against the text relating to the proposal to reduce the 6×1 scale, presented by the proposal’s rapporteur in the Chamber, deputy Luiz Gastão (PSD-CE).

The text presented by the deputy reduces the weekly working hours to 40 hours but maintains the possibility for workers to work six days a week, which goes against the government’s proposal to reduce the 5×2 working day — five days of work, compared to two days of rest.

“The work will be provided up to 6 (six) days a week, without prejudice to paid weekly rest”, says an excerpt from the text presented at the Special Subcommittee on the 6×1 Scale, of the Chamber.

An expensive agenda for the Lula government and a bet for the 2026 elections, the reduction of working hours is a theme reinforced in speeches, statements and actions by the management at this point in the mandate.

To journalists, the ministers (General Secretariat), (Institutional Relations) and Sidônio Palmeira (Communication Secretariat) announced, alongside allied parliamentarians, the government’s position on the new text.

“We were surprised by the subcommittee’s report that the 6×1 scale ended and it did not end with the 6×1 scale,” said Boulos. “The end of the 6×1 scale without salary reduction is a flag defended by President Lula’s government and we will continue defending it in parliament, in society, on the streets and in dialogue with all parliamentarians, because it is also an agenda approved by more than 70% of the Brazilian population in all surveys.
