Globo is in negotiations to expand the team of commentators for the 2026 World Cup with two of the greatest players in the history of women’s football: Marta and Cristiane Rozeira.

According to journalist Gabriel Vaquer, from Folha de São Paulo, the broadcaster holds initial conversations with the athletes so that they can be part of the tournament coverage. Even at a preliminary stage, the expectation is that the agreement will be closed in the next few days.

Have Marta and Cristiane ever been commentators? Do they still play?

Marta’s presence is a long-standing desire of Globo. In 2022, she would have received an invitation to participate in the World Cup coverage in Qatar, but other professional commitments did not make participation possible.

The six-time best player in the world by FIFA is still active. Currently, Marta is an athlete for Orlando Pride, in the United States, a club she has defended since 2017.

Cristiane has a history of working as a commentator. She worked for Globo itself in the Brazilian women’s team’s games at the 2021 and 2024 Olympic Games. In her career, Cristiane has defended Flamengo’s shirt since January 2024.

Globo promises massive coverage of the 2026 World Cup

For the World Cup, Globo plans to broadcast 54 matches on open TV and sportv. The Rio broadcaster will broadcast all of Brazil’s games and half of the knockout phase, in addition to the grand final, scheduled for July 19th. The special program starts this Friday (5), with the live broadcast of the group draw.

Throughout the first half of the year, news programs and high-profile programs, such as Fantástico, Jornal Nacional and Jornal da Globo, will also participate in the coverage, receiving special content about the World Cup.

Furthermore, the forecast is to send between 60 and 70 professionals to cover the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The broadcaster’s expectation is to set up a structure that will be spread across the three tournament venues.
