Negotiations between Putin and Witkoff behind closed doors are over: They discussed the peace plan!

Roughly five hours of talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow have come to an end. TASR informs about it with reference to AFP, Reuters and TASS agencies. The purpose of the closed-door meeting was to discuss an updated US peace plan to end the war in Ukraine. None of the representatives immediately informed about the results of the negotiations.

Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, also attended the meeting from the American delegation. On the Russian side, presidential adviser Yuriy Ushakov and special envoy Kirill Dmitriev were present. According to an AFP source, the meeting between the two American negotiators and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could take place as early as Wednesday in Brussels.

On Tuesday, Trump described the war in Ukraine as „chaos“ and declared that the conflict will not be easy to resolve. His words came almost simultaneously with the statements of Zelensky, who expressed optimism about the peace negotiations and the role of the United States in this process.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described Sunday’s negotiations with the Ukrainian delegation in Florida as very productive, but he also emphasized that there is still a long way to a peace agreement with Russia. The Kyiv delegation at the negotiations with Washington was led by the Secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, who also described the talks as productive and successful.
