Number of feminicides in Brazil is unacceptable, says Minister of Women

Number of victims of feminicide reached 1,459 in 2024. In an interview with Live CNNMárcia Lopes, Minister of Women, highlights that violence against women manifests itself in different ways before leading to femicide, starting with swearing, pushing and aggression that are often not recognized by the victims themselves as forms of domestic violence.

“Unfortunately we don’t”, says the minister, who also highlighted that other symptoms of gender inequality contribute to violence.

Actions to combat violence

The Ministry of Women has developed partnerships with federal and state universities and federal institutes to establish permanent strategies to combat violence. “We want to do this with all sectors”, explains Lopes. “It’s an agenda for the entire society.”

The initiatives include the inclusion of specific content in the CVs of future professionals and assistance to employees and employees of the institutions.

The minister reports that Ligue 180 has proven to be an essential tool, providing around three thousand daily calls. With 350 professionals, the service offers not only a channel for complaints, but also guidance and referral to the women’s service network.

Pay inequality

In addition to physical and psychological violence, women also face disparities in the job market. Currently, they receive an average of 21.2% less than men, in some cases reaching a difference of 30% for the same role.

The Ministry is also implementing awareness actions in public spaces, such as the Lilás Tent at the Brasília bus station, and plans to expand the initiative to beaches during the summer. The objective is to reach the population in their daily lives, distributing information materials and carrying out educational approaches.
