Toffoli reinforces the secrecy of the petition filed by Vorcaro’s defense

Minister Dias Toffoli, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), increased the level of secrecy of a request from defense banker Daniel Vorcaro, one of Banco Master’s partners, for the investigation involving the institution to be conducted by the Court. The motivation for the request would be due to the mention of a federal deputy in the investigation.

On Friday (28), the lawyers filed a constitutional complaint against the decision of the Federal Court of Brasília that ordered the banker’s arrest. The petition was filed under judicial secrecy and distributed to Minister Dias Toffoli, who became the case’s rapporteur.

After the petition reached the minister’s office, the degree of secrecy was changed to confidential, in which it is not possible to identify the initials of Vorcaro’s name and the progress of the process in the Supreme Court’s electronic system.

There is no deadline for Toffoli to decide the issue.

Vorcaro and other defendants were the target of Operation Compliance Zero, launched by the Federal Police (PF) to investigate the granting of false credits by Banco Master, including the attempted purchase of the financial institution by Banco Regional de Brasília (BRB), a public bank linked to the government of the Federal District. According to investigations, fraud could reach R$17 billion.

On Friday (28), judge Solange Salgado da Silva, of the Federal Regional Court (TRF) of the 1st Region, granted a habeas corpus and ordered the release of Vorcaro, former directors Luiz Antonio Bull, Alberto Feliz de Oliveira and Angelo Antonio Ribeiro da Silva, as well as Augusto Ferreira Lima, former partner of the bank. The Federal Public Ministry has already appealed this decision.

They will be monitored by an electronic ankle bracelet and are prohibited from carrying out activities in the financial sector, having contact with other people under investigation and leaving the country.
