The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that he had a “very good conversation” with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva this Tuesday (2), in a telephone conversation that lasted around 40 minutes.
“We talked about trade. We talked about sanctions because, as you know, I imposed sanctions related to certain things that happened (…) But we had a very good conversation. I like him, very good. We had some good meetings, as you know, but today we had a very good conversation,” Trump said.
According to the Brazilian government, among the topics discussed in the call were the trade tariffs applied by the USA on Brazilian products and the collaboration between the two countries in the fight against organized crime.

During the call, Lula highlighted the importance of removing surcharges that still apply to some Brazilian products, such as beef, coffee and fruit.
The Brazilian government positively evaluated the US decision to eliminate the 40% surcharge on certain items, but highlighted that other tariffs still need to be negotiated to expand bilateral trade.
Brazil is one of the largest exporters of meat to the United States, a market that faced tariff restrictions during the Trump administration.
Recently, part of these barriers were removed, which contributed to the reduction in product prices on the American market, as mentioned by President Trump himself.
In addition to trade issues, the presidents discussed the need to strengthen cooperation to confront criminal organizations that operate internationally.
Lula shared details about recent operations by the Brazilian government to financially weaken criminal factions, while Trump expressed full support for joint initiatives in this area.
