Camila Rebelo breaks 100 backstroke record at European short course

One day after being fourth in the 200 meter backstroke, also with a new national maximum (2.03.51 minutes), Camila Rebelo was once again in the spotlight, swimming the 100 meters in 57.79 seconds, surpassing her previous record, which was 58.14.

This Thursday, Portuguese swimmer Camila Rebelo broke the national record for the 100 meter backstroke in a short pool and guaranteed her presence in the semi-finals of the European Championships, which are taking place in Lublin, Poland.

With this mark, the sixth best in the qualifiers, Camila Rebelo assured her presence in the semi-finals, scheduled for 19:52 local time (18:52 in Lisbon), unlike Rafaela Azevedo, who was 23rd, with a time of 1.00.30.

Francisca Martins took more than two seconds off her personal best in the 800 meter freestyle, swimming in 8.29.16 minutes and bettering the previous 8.31.79, finishing in 11th place in the qualifiers and failing to qualify for the final.

In the 100 meter backstroke, João Costa was just 15 hundredths away from qualifying for the semi-finals, finishing with the 23rd time in the qualifiers, at 51.81 seconds, also approaching his personal best (51.34).

Also close to the semi-finals was Mariana Cunha in the 100 meter butterfly, swimming in 58.63 seconds, just 15 hundredths away from qualifying, placing 17th in time.

Ana Guedes was 24th in the same event, in 1.01.10 minutes, while, in the men’s sector, Vasco Morgado won his series, but was only 32nd in the qualifiers, with 51.96 seconds.

In the mixed 4×50 meter freestyle relay, Miguel Nascimento, Alexandre Amorim, Mariana Cunha and Ana Pinho Rodrigues achieved the 13th time, in 1.34.61 minutes.
