The president of Lisbon City Council has already chosen the future administration of Carris, including the new president, who is expected to take over leadership of the company from January onwards.

Carlos Moedas chose Rui Lopo as president of Carris. The current administrator at TML – Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa is expected to take office in January, but before that, this choice will have to be voted on at a meeting of the City Council, on December 10th.

The Lisbon mayor considers that Rui Lopo is a “clear option”for being a “proven” manager in the mobility sector and who “best defends the future of the company and the challenges that Carris faces”.

In a note sent to SIC, the Moedas executive also highlights that Rui Lopo had, in recent years, a “decisive role” in coordinating Carris Metropolitana and the Navegante pass.

Rui Lopo was councilor at Barreiro City Council with responsibilities in the areas of planning, urbanism and mobility.

“A safe bet for a new cycle, with an enormous technical management capacity, with recognized sector credibility and with great capabilities in the management of large projects”, considers Moedas.

On his page on the LinkedIn social network, Rui Lopo describes himself as a “good observer”, a characteristic he relates to his childhood hobby of observing and studying birds.

“Maybe it’s because of this hobby, but I’ve always liked observing many things, understanding their relationships and behaviors,” he writes.

Rui Lopo will succeed Pedro de Brito Bogas, who after Carlos Moedas said he would not reappoint himace the preliminary conclusions of the report on the Elevador da Glória tragedy, which indicated a “set of very serious technical failures”.
