The decision by the president of the Federal Council of Medicine, José Hiran Gallo, to declare support for the minister’s appointment to the Federal Supreme Court generated a crisis in the body, which in recent years has aligned itself with conservative positions.
This Wednesday (3), Gallo published a video on a social network alongside Messias, saying that he will be a “great minister”.

All it took was for Gallo to publish the video and complaints began to appear in internal groups and memes. In one of them, the head of the CFM appears wearing a PT shirt.
This Thursday morning (4), the council’s management met and there were widespread complaints about the president’s position.
The release of a note was even discussed saying that Gallo’s decision was personal and did not represent the CFM, but it ended up being discarded, due to an assessment that it would only generate more wear and tear.
The main criticism of Messias is the fact that he, as minister of the (General Attorney’s Office of the Union), took a position against a CFM resolution that vetoed fetal asystole, an abortive procedure, for fetuses over 22 weeks. The resolution was later overturned by minister Alexandre de Moraes.

In CFM groups, the president’s attitude was called “lambança”, among other terms. There is also fear that the council will lose the support of right-wing senators in projects of interest to the body, with the creation of a proficiency exam for the medical category.
