In the event of a long-term power outage, the so-called blackout, it is necessary to think about sufficient supplies of food and water. There should be a 14-day supply for each member of the household, with the fact that each person needs at least four liters of water per day. Do not forget about heating or lighting. This follows from information published by the Ministry of the Interior in the guide What to do in the event of a crisis or armed conflict.
“Prepare spare lighting: LED lights, candles, lighters, flashlights with spare batteries, headlamp, kerosene torch. Handle with care,” recommended by the Department of the Interior. In the event of a power outage, it can be cooked with dry or denatured alcohol. A gas stove or grill can also help. It is necessary to secure a reception device. A battery operated radio will do.
Don’t forget first aid either. It is good to have a first aid kit with basic medicines, prescription medicines or bandages. It is also important to have hygiene items. “Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, toilet paper, sanitary napkins or tampons, heavy-duty detergent, trash bags, cleaning supplies,” wrote the department in the manual. The Ministry also advises to have enough cash. It is recommended to have at least two weeks worth of shopping.
