Under pressure from European institutions, the Government had admitted that it would continue to follow the strategy used previously: whenever market prices for fuel fell, it would take advantage of these moments to gradually withdraw the ISP discount.
The end of the reduction in the Tax on Petroleum and Energy Products (ISP) should yield around 190 million euros to the next year.
Of the 190 million, it is estimated that 129 million result from the increase in ISP revenue applied to diesel, 27 million come from gasoline and another 36 million correspond to the VAT associated with these values.
According to calculations by this amount should compensate for the negative effect caused by the exemption from tolls on the A6 and A2, in Baixo Alentejo, for residents, as well as the freezing of tuition fees in higher education.
O Público tried to obtain, from the Finance Minister’s office, information about the budgetary impact that the Government foresees with the change in ISP rates announced last Friday, but did not receive any response.
