The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahuhas named this Thursday as next head of Mossad (foreign intelligence service) to his advisor on military matters, Aluf Ronan Gofman, replacing David Barneawhom he will replace in June 2026 when his five-year term ends. In a statement, Netanyahu’s office stressed that Gofman, currently the prime minister’s military secretary, is the “most worthy and suitable candidate for the position.”
The note highlights that he has held several positions in the Israeli Army and that his appointment as military secretary to the prime minister in May 2024 “demonstrated his exceptional professional abilities“.”Gofman demonstrated creativity, initiative, cunning, deep knowledge of the enemy, absolute discretion and secrecy,” explains the statement, which highlights his performance in the Israeli offensive in Gaza, where he was seriously injured. According to the ‘Times Of Israel’ newspaper, the appointment will now be presented to the Advisory Committee on Senior Appointments for review.
