Marina Silva is hospitalized after lower back pain; examination indicates ‘slight fracture’

According to a statement released by the ministry, Marina was treated, feels well and will be discharged this Wednesday

The Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, was hospitalized on the afternoon of Wednesday, 3rd, due to sudden pain in the lower back, which she felt while moving potted plants in her home.

According to a statement released by the ministry, Marina was treated, feels well and will be discharged this Wednesday. A computed tomography scan was performed, which showed a slight fracture in the L4 vertebra.

She was treated at Hospital Brasília, in Lago Sul, by doctors Leonardo Coelho and Eder Malta, general practitioners, and Isaias Azevedo, an orthopedist.

Marina was on vacation from her duties as a minister. She will need to be away from in-person work in the coming weeks, but must continue working remotely.

Marina Silva is 67 years old. She has a long history as an environmentalist and had previously been Minister of the Environment in the first term of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), between 2003 and 2008. She has held her current position since 2023.

Marina has also been a councilor in Rio Branco, a state deputy in Acre, a federal deputy and a senator, always supporting the cause of environmental preservation.
