A resident of the village of Pepeni, in the Sîngerei district of Moldova, recently found a fallen drone and decided to take it home, believing it to be a toy. The episode only became public when the police were alerted by the mayor of the local council, Oleg Cernei, who realized that the drone was being transported in a trailer pulled by a tractor.
When authorities arrived, some parts of the device had already been removed, and no explosives or signs of immediate danger were found. The drone was identified as a Gerbera model, often used in reconnaissance operations or improvised attacks, similar to those used in the Ukraine conflict.
The Moldovan police appealed to the population not to touch or transport fallen drones or similar objects, stressing that even without an obvious risk, these devices belonging to military weapons can pose unexpected dangers.
The incident comes in a context of growing concern about incursions by Russian drones into Moldovan airspace, where several unauthorized entries of devices have already been recorded, including some that landed in residential buildings.
