Around 60 people were searched, zero weapons: “For us it’s a good sign”, comments subintendent Iúri Rodrigues.
The Public Security Police (PSP) closed and zone to Martim Moniz, in Lisbon, late this Wednesday afternoon.
The PSP was carrying out a Special Criminal Prevention Operation, a type of operation enshrined in the Weapons Law.
Over the course of this year, there have been some crimes committed with armas in that area. “It is an area that concentrates crimes involving bladed weapons, and there have been several incidents this year, one of them last month, which caused serious injuries”, explained sub-intendent Iúri Rodrigues, in .
Therefore, the police closed the place looking for weapons – but found none.
The idea, explains Iúri Rodrigues, was “to recover weapons that were in the possession of people who frequent this place”.
In Martim Moniz and the surrounding streets, there were searched around 60 people, found zero weapons: “We didn’t catch any weapons, so for us it’s a good sign, as, fortunately, there are no people in this place with weapons”, reacts the deputy superintendent, on the radio.
The PSP identified a citizen who “from the outset” is in irregular situation in Portugal, two with drug for consumption and three with legal proceedings pending
“We are just waiting to finalize the information to confirm this data from a foreign citizen.” Regarding the drug, the product will still be analyzed, but “everything indicates that these will be situations of consumption”. “We also caught three people with court requests regarding decision notifications, which we are complying with”, describes the PSP manager.
The operation included operatives from the Intervention Corps, the Rapid Intervention Teams, the Foreigners and Border Control Unit and several police officers assigned to patrolling.
