An attack by Santos fans against a bus carrying Internacional fans left at least six injured and caused the temporary blockage of a section of BR-101, in Itapema (SC). Ten people were arrested.
The Santos players were returning from Caxias do Sul (RS), where they had beaten Juventude. The Colorados were returning from the city of Santos, where the team from Rio Grande do Sul lost 3-0 to São Paulo, in Vila Belmiro.
According to information from the Federal Highway Police, seven buses were carrying Santos fans and one was carrying Internacional fans. The confrontation occurred when buses from both fans crossed at km 148 of the highway.
The PRF says that the Santos buses intentionally slowed down the traffic to intercept the vehicle carrying Inter fans.
When the Colorado bus passed through the stretch, Santos fans attacked the vehicle with sticks and rockets.
The driver of the Colorado bus reversed to try to escape the attack and ended up colliding with a trailer on the highway. The PRF isolated and protected the Inter fans, while the Military Police contained the Santos fans.
The Military Police reported that there are no outstanding arrest warrants against members of the Internacional fans. There is still no information about the Santos fans arrested.
The injured received care from Samu at the scene. The PRF estimates that 200 fans of both teams were involved in the incident.
Both clubs are fighting relegation. Santos’ situation was once more delicate, but improved after the victory in Caxias do Sul and negative results from direct competitors.
Internacional’s situation has worsened in the last three months with a series of defeats and two changes of coaches.
With the setback for São Paulo, Internacional fell to 18th place and now needs to win in the final round, in addition to hoping for a combination of results, to remain in the first division.
