PL deputy criticized the judiciary during speech at seminar on combating organized crime
The federal deputy (PL-MG) criticized the decision of the minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) Gilmar Mendes that members of the Supreme Court. He said that the judiciary in Brazil acts “disastrous way” and which turned into “a business desk”.
The statement was made during the panel “The importance of adopting a legislative agenda to tighten rules and supervision”, held by ICL (Instituto Combustível Legal) in Brasília, with support from Poder360on Wednesday (3.Dec.2025).
“We are masters of ourselves in terms of the fact that we have the freedom to act within the law. And one of the powers that the law also guarantees is that this citizen can take complaints, complaints to their representatives. Today I see the headline that Mr. Gilmar Mendes decides that no Brazilian citizen can present a request for impeachment of a STF minister. In other words, an absolute shielding of the STF. The STF can decide whatever it wants. And you ladies and gentlemen, me and my colleagues here, We have to shut up and agree”, said the PL deputy.
“What legal security is there if we write an excellent law regarding the fight against organized crime and the minister comes and says ‘the police cannot act’? As they did. Without any constitutional basis. (…) Now we are going to vote on a law on persistent debtors. What security do I have?”he declared.
Sávio stated that there is “news that the STF, including through family members, has turned into a business desk”.
He said: “I have just filed a bill establishing that, just as I cannot nominate a relative, a Court like this cannot have a judge judging a case that a relative sponsors, but the STF recently decided, contrary to a decision by the STF itself, that there is no problem. If a judge’s wife, child, relative sponsors an action there, there is no incompatibility for that minister to judge”.
The deputy argued that society should discuss “a reform of the judiciary and the recovery of the balance between powers”. He stated that Brazil is “submerging into a dictatorship” of the Judiciary. “As the formation of an ideological, armored STF, which cannot be impeached, which cannot have any possibility of reviewing its decisions, is expanding. What can we expect from this? May we react while there is time”these.
