The couple allegedly used a hidden camera and headphones to defraud an Australian casino of more than 1 million dollars.
A Kazakh couple is accused of using a hidden camera and headphones to fraudulently earn almost 1.2 million Australian dollars (almost 68 thousand euros) in an Australian casino.
The couple were caught after employees at the casino, located in Sydney’s central Barangaroo neighborhood, noticed that 36-year-old Dilnoza Israilova was wearing a small discreet camera on your Mickey Mouse t-shirtNew South Wales Police reported.
She and her husband, Alisherykhoja Israilov, 44, were detained. During the search, the police found “magnetic probes” and a mirror attached to a cell phone, allegedly used to cheat games.
The couple were accused of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage and remain in custody.
New South Wales Police said the couple arrived in Sydney from Kazakhstan in October and applied for casino membership on the same day.
In the following weeks, they made several visits to the casino – allegedly the Crown, on the Sydney waterfront – and accumulated winnings totaling 1,179,412.50 Australian dollars.
This raised the suspicions of casino employees, who allegedly caught them on Thursday.
Police stated that the spying devices were connected to the couple’s cell phonesallowing them to capture and view images of the gaming table.
They also wore hidden headphones, through which they supposedly received instructions about When to bet on card games.
A New South Wales Police spokesperson told the BBC they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the alleged fraud.
In a subsequent search of his accommodation near the casino, the police found other “gambling props”, luxury jewelry and 2000 euros in cash.
The couple appeared in court on Friday and were refused bail, NSW police said.
According to The Guardian Australia newspaper, Dilnoza Israilova is expected to appear in court again in February, while Alisherykhoja Israilov is scheduled to appear on December 11th.
