Trump and Sheinbaum will meet for the first time in the World Cup draw

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that she will have a brief face-to-face meeting with Donald Trump this week in Washington, as negotiations continue over US tariffs on Mexican products.

The first face-to-face meeting between them is scheduled for Friday (5), confirmed Sheinbaum during his daily press conference on Thursday. She will also meet with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in Washington, where the leaders will participate in the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the three North American countries.

Sheinbaum is making his first trip to the United States as president, at a time when his administration is still negotiating with Trump over tariffs imposed on Mexican products. In previous negotiations, she managed to postpone the application of some of these tariffs.

The three countries are also expected to review the USMCA free trade agreement next year.

Following the example of his predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who avoided international travel, Sheinbaum has made few trips abroad during his term.

She had planned to meet Trump at a Group of Seven summit in Canada in June, but Trump left the meeting a day early amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran.
